Marmalade sandwiches are Paddington Bear's favorite food in the world. Paddington's Aunt Lucy taught him how to make marmalade sandwiches back in the jungles of Darkest Peru. His Uncle Pastuzo always kept a marmalade sandwich under his red bucket hat 'in case of emergency'.
Oranges and sugar are used to make the marmalade, then it is spread between two pieces of bread to make a marmalade sandwich. To be a Proper Marmalade Sandwich, it must be made of the best marmalade you can find all around and fresh-sliced bread. Paddington likes the chipped Seville orange marmalade, with chunks of pith in.

Paddington (2014)[]
Marmalade was first introduced to the bears of Darkest Peru by Montgomery Clyde. He left the bears with a recipe, and over the years Lucy made it even better (in the opinion of Pastuzo). It is the bears' favourite food, and they often say that 'just one sandwich contains all the vitamins and minerals a bear needs for the whole day'. During the earthquake, the marmalade bottles start tipping over and are quickly destroyed by the earthquake. However, Paddington has kept more marmalade bottles in his suitcase, which he consumes in the boat on the way to London.
When Paddington moves to London, he introduces his Aunt Lucy's recipe to the Browns, who then decide to make Marmalade Day an annual event in their household.
Paddington 2 (2017)[]
In Paddington 2, the bear introduces the sandwiches when he shoves his emergency marmalade in Knuckles' mouth when he is being threatened. Once Knuckles tastes the sandwich, he demands that Paddington recreates it in the prison kitchen. Soon, everyone in the prison loves marmalade sandwiches as well.
