Synopsis[]

The local Shakespeare in the Park play is underway and Paddington is in charge of sound effects for the performance of Romeo and Juliet. Paddington's thunder claps take everyone by surprise and make the play a resounding success when a real life Romeo and Juliet story comes to a happy ending.

Summary[]

Paddington reads a script and holds a broom like a sword, but he knocks down a coat hanger. Mrs. Bird wonders what is going on, and he says that he auditioned for a Shakespeare in the Park play, Romeo and Juliet. Mrs. Bird asks him to play the part of a helpful bear and gives him a shopping list.

At the shop, worker Harold gets a call from the play director and he got the role as Romeo, and his wife Deirdre playing the role as Juliet. When she spills something by accident, she asks "Romeo" to bring a mop and a pail. At the park stage, the director suggests they get started. Paddington asks the director what role he will play, and he says to play The Friar, who only has three lines. Although, Mr. Pick also needs someone to do the sound effects, so he tells Paddington to make the sounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Brown is woken up that night and believe they hear thunder, but it turns out to be Paddington waving a metal sheet. At rehearsals, he continues to practice his sounds as Harold and Deirdre alongside others are there. They dance, until Paddington causes a record scratch. Harold is upset that he made himself a fool on the stage and believes that Deirdre thinks he is an idiot. But, Paddington hears Deirdre say that Harold is her Romeo nonetheless. On the day the play opens, Deirdre falls thanks to Harold. He is upset, but Paddington whispers what he had heard. On stage at the balcony scene, Harold forgets his lines, so Paddington blows his horn. They both fall off the balcony and everyone laughs, however, they start applausing when Harold apologizes. That's until, they hear thunder that isn't Paddington's metal sheet, it is a real storm.
